ABOUT US

HEATHER: Prior to founding Raven House Enterprises, Heather spent the majority of her career in service to various education institutions, from colleges to preschools and everything in between. She has 15 years experience in acquisition and management of federal, state, and private grants as well as 10 years experience as an evaluator and research analyst. In addition to writing dozens of successful grants and conducting program evaluations, she has created award-winning communication resources including a crisis communication toolkit which won the Award of Excellence from the National School Public Relations Association.​  She has been a 5th grade teacher, GED exam administrator, English as a Second Language instructor, grant writer, youth program director, data analyst, research coordinator, program evaluator, grant management instructor, grant director, and events coordinator, among other roles. She spent 16 years with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, finishing her time there as Executive Director of Communications, Development, and Engagement overseeing district communications, media relations, grant writing and implementation, grant evaluation, community engagement, and strategic partnerships throughout the district. Heather holds a Bachelor's degree in English and an MBA, both from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

MIKE: Prior to founding Raven House Enterprises with Heather, Mike had a long career in the military and K-12 education. He began his military career in the Marine Corps Reserve before being selected for a commission as an Intelligence Officer in the South Dakota Air National Guard.  Upon completing his undergraduate degree, he accepted a full time position in a newly established Alaska Air National Guard unit at Eielson AFB where he spent the next 22 years working as an Intelligence Officer, Mission Director, Aircraft Generation Squadron Commander, Support Group Commander, and Maintenance Group Commander.  After retiring from the military as a Colonel, he served as a teacher at North Pole High School for another 10 years. He is a veteran of operations Desert Storm/Shield, Joint Forge, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and Noble Eagle. Mike's leadership and vision have earned him a reputation for turning poor performing organizations in both military and education environments into nationally recognized organizations of outstanding performance.  Awards include being named the Outstanding USAF (Reserve Component) Intelligence Officer in 1996, a Bronze Star for his role in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, and being named the VFW National High School Teacher of the Year in 2018. â€‹Mike has a Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management from the University of Minnesota - Mankato and a Masters Degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
